BBQ EXPO MASTER’S CHALLENGE

The BBQ EXPO MASTER’S CHALLENGE is a KCBS-sanctioned competition, offering teams the opportunity to earn points toward the 2025 Team of the Year (TOY) Europe rankings.
KCBS competitions are divided into key categories that represent the most common cuts of meat in traditional American barbecue. As a MASTER SERIES contest, the BBQ EXPO MASTER’S CHALLENGE requires each team to prepare and present the following dishes:
- Chicken: can be presented in any form, but it must meet the required standards of taste and tenderness.
- Pork Ribs: typically St. Louis-style ribs, they must be perfectly cooked with a balanced flavor and ideal texture.
- Pork Shoulder (Boston Butt): must be tender enough to pull apart and well-smoked, with flavors that enhance the meat without overpowering it.
- Brisket: the most challenging and prestigious cut; it must be tender, juicy, and showcase a perfect balance of smoke, seasoning, and texture.
The winners receive cash prizes, trophies, and, most importantly, prestige within the barbecue community. The Grand Champion, the most coveted title, is awarded to the team with the highest overall score, calculated by summing the scores from all four dishes.
Only those who excel in every single category will earn the honor of becoming the first Grand Champion of this Master Series!
Visitors to the BBQ Expo will have the unique opportunity to watch the teams in action live and witness the winners’ awards ceremony.
