Marco Agostini, born in 1973 in Lombardy, has a background in business consulting and a lifelong passion for all aspects of gastronomy. With fifteen years of experience in the barbecue industry, he has played an active role in many of Italy’s early barbecue initiatives, courses, and events, becoming one of the leading figures in the sector today.
A certified AIS sommelier and ONAF taster, Marco’s diverse experience in the culinary world has made him an eclectic professional, influencing techniques and trends in the industry. His work has led him to create a new concept of creative barbecue, elevating it to the level of other well-established culinary expressions.
Marco was part of the first Italian team to be invited to the prestigious Jack Daniel’s Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and remains the only team to have been invited two years in a row. Over the past five years, he has actively participated in the international competitive barbecue circuit of the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS). He holds qualifications as a KCBS Certified Barbecue Judge, KCBS Certified Table Captain, and Certified Steak Cookoff Association Judge, making him one of Italy’s most recognized and appreciated barbecue experts internationally.
A historic figure in barbecue education in Italy, Marco has contributed significantly to the development of training programs, course organization, and the execution of the main barbecue courses available in Italy today.
Since 2015, he has been the manager of the Weber Grill Academy in Milan, Italy’s leading center for barbecue courses with over 3,000 certificates issued. He is also the creator of the educational content for Weber Grill Academy Italy.
Currently, Marco serves as the rector of the Agribrianza BBQ Academy, an institution independent from the commercial barbecue world, focused solely on education and training in the field.
Author of the books Subito Barbecue, Universo Barbecue, and Universo Bistecca, he is also a blogger on thebarktenders.com and the Barbecue Creativo group. A TV personality with appearances on Gambero Rosso and Rai1, Marco is a technical consultant for many major Italian barbecue events, a consulting chef specializing in barbecue and grilling, and one of Italy’s leading experts on smoking techniques, particularly cold smoking.
Marco Agostini is the founder of BBQ Hangout and, through the brand The Barktenders, offers an innovative high-end catering service entirely focused on grilling.
